Girl Power Hour Post: Sports the All Inclusive Club

Talk Sporty to Me is your monthly cheat sheet to the hottest, most talked about sports topics.

Thanks to a Seahawks bye (off week) I was able to take a break last weekend, go wine tasting and see a movie – The Social Network. You’ve probably heard about it, it’s a story about the founders of Facebook. But there’s a very obvious sports theme toward the beginning of the movie. During an early scene, the ability to be an athlete divides the “have’s” and the “have not’s.” It’s something most of understand from our school days. No Idle Chit Chat Here: Sports Conversations at Work

The standard “How was your weekend?” question, will often times lead to a stock response. “Fine” “Too short” “Busy” you get the idea. Ask a question that’s a little more focused and you’re likely to get a better, more useful response. “What do you think about the Brett Favre allegations?” “What did you think about Detroit’s win against St. Louis?” “Did you see the Sounders made the playoffs?” Those questions help focus the conversation for your co-workers – particularly men. It gives them a chance to share their opinions without talking about “personal” issues or engaging in “chit-chat.”
